Autodesk, Inc. and McLaren Software Collaborate to Help Maximize the Use of Design and Engineering Data Across the Enterprise
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., July 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Today Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK), the world's leading design software and digital content company, announced that it is working with McLaren Software, an Autodesk development partner, to ensure that valuable design information can be used, shared, and managed more easily across the enterprise with the DWF(TM) file format. As the demand for design information continues to expand beyond the engineering department to procurement, marketing, finance, and other areas of the business, DWF, an open, secure file format, proves to be the ideal platform for sharing design data published out of any Autodesk design application or with the free, Autodesk(R) DWF(TM) Writer. McLaren's Enterprise Engineer is a suite of content applications that provide a comprehensive solution to manage engineering content, including DWF files, along with business processes across the enterprise. Enterprise Engineer is supported by leading Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platforms, such as the ECM Documentum Enterprise Content Management platform from ECM Corporation. Leveraging the power of DWF, the McLaren Enterprise Engineer will improve communication of engineering design data by allowing even those unfamiliar with CAD applications to view, revise, and markup sheet sets electronically, without the need for design authoring software.
"This collaboration further strengthens our relationship with Autodesk and brings greater value to customers of both companies by providing out-of-the-box content applications to manage engineering content across the whole organization for an increasing variety of commercial and compliance related activities," said Tim Taylor, chief business development officer at McLaren Software. "McLaren has incorporated its industry experience in developing Enterprise Engineer content management applications, and Autodesk, as the market leader in design software, understands the design process, which results in a relationship that ultimately provides our customers with a way to intelligently manage design data and associated documents in line with overall business processes."
Enterprise Engineer integrates drawings from AutoCAD(R) and Autodesk(R) Architectural Desktop software applications and allows it to be managed and distributed securely on the same platform as other enterprise content. McLaren is now leveraging the capabilities of Design Web Format(TM) (DWF) with Autodesk(R) DWF(TM) Viewer and plans to use Autodesk(R) DWF(TM) Composer to provide a more secure and efficient way to share design data with the organization. This secure and auditable sharing of information is especially important for organizations in regulated industries such as process manufacturing, utilities, and engineering, and design and construction sectors. McLaren's collaboration with Autodesk extends the capabilities of their Enterprise Engineer application suite and the link between Autodesk design software and leading enterprise content management platforms. Design data in the DWF file format can be created, managed, and shared of as part of larger enterprise-wide business processes.
"While other lifecycle management solutions are confined departmentally, design content from Autodesk with Enterprise Engineer on the EMC Documentum platform allows engineering content to be leveraged within and beyond the greater enterprise. Design data can be shared on a platform that scales to thousands of users via a full suite of applications," said Rob Tarkoff, senior vice president of strategy for EMC Software. "EMC and McLaren have been partners for more many years and share over 300 joint customers. McLaren Enterprise Engineer was recently accredited in the Designed for Documentum program, enabling process manufacturing, utilities, engineering, design and construction customers to reliably extend the EMC Documentum platform
"Leveraging the full capabilities of Autodesk Design Web Format with McLaren's Enterprise Engineer makes it even easier for project team members to communicate design information," said Tony Peach, director of DWF strategy for Autodesk. "Introducing DWF Composer into the mix of Autodesk products supported by Enterprise Engineer makes the design process more efficient by allowing team members who are not users of design authoring software such as AutoCAD to review, mark up, and revise design documents and have their changes integrated into the review process."
