Autodesk DWF Applications With HP Instant Printing Improves Project Teams' Collaboration on Design, Mapping and Engineering Efforts

SAN RAFAEL, Calif., May 25, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK) and HP (NYSE: HPQ; Nasdaq: HPQ) today announced the availability of instant printing capabilities for HP Designjet series printers with Autodesk DWF Viewer, a free, downloadable viewer for 2D and 3D design workflows, and DWF Composer software that enables users to review, mark up and revise drawings.

HP Instant Printing for Autodesk applications offers extended project teams the first-ever single-click printing of large-format, highly detailed drawings, plans and maps from a software application. For a limited time, Autodesk and HP are offering a free copy of DWF Composer software to customers in the United States who purchase an HP Designjet series printer that includes the new instant print capabilities.

For greater team productivity, faster design reviews and cost-effective responsiveness, project members can actively participate in the design process by creating, managing and sharing designs as DWF files, and printing them instantly on HP Designjet printers. A result of the two companies' long-term, strategic alliance to help joint customers realize their ideas faster, HP Instant Printing for Autodesk applications helps AutoCAD software users and others in the building, manufacturing and civil engineering fields share information across the project lifecycle.

"Autodesk and HP are delivering solutions to help designers accelerate productivity and experience more efficient design review processes," said Amar Hanspal, vice president, Autodesk Collaboration Services. "As leaders in our respective technology categories, Autodesk and HP are bringing together the best resources for our customers to maintain the full integrity of the design throughout the engineering workflow, including collaboration with partners and sub-contractors, as well as clients -- regardless of partners' or customers' technology investments."

"Together, Autodesk and HP are transforming the overall productivity of project teams through dependable design and printing technology," said Enrique Lores, vice president and general manager, Inkjet Commercial Division, HP. "HP Instant Printing for Autodesk applications helps improve team efficiency by making it simpler and more reliable than ever before to print digital DWF files on any supported HP Designjet printer."

Quick, Universal Access to High-Fidelity Large-Format Prints

HP Instant Printing technology enables plans and drawings to be printed accurately and reliably in the contractor's office, at a job site, or on the manufacturing floor, with the click of a button. Users simply select and click the HP Instant Printing button in the main toolbar of the Autodesk DWF Viewer or DWF Composer application. Instant printing of DWF files saves valuable time and provides dependable, high-quality output. DWF has been developed specifically to share complex design information securely, while maintaining its integrity, at a fraction of the file size.

"It's great to have a 'one-click' option for plotting a few sheets quickly," said Thomas Pfadler, engineer for Ingenieurbüro, a German design firm. "I can work more productively and so can my colleagues, because anyone in my office or any of our consultants can print a DWF file quickly and securely on an HP Designjet printer."

Another early adopter, Kal Houhou, CAD manager at the Lessard Group, said, "The HP Instant Printing capability for DWF is very useful. It's so easy to set the parameters once and just click to print -- there's nothing more to do to get great prints that help sell your work to clients."
