Mar 22, 2004
  Carrier-Grade Software Platform Offers Wireless Network Operators Improved
                 Data Management Tools and Support for Linux

ATLANTA, CTIA Wireless (Booth #4059), March 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Autodesk Location Services, a division of Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK), today announced the latest version of its carrier-grade software platform for location-enhanced services, Autodesk(R) LocationLogic 5. Unlike wireless-enabled GIS platforms, Autodesk LocationLogic was built from the ground up to meet the needs of wireless network operators. Enhancements to the latest version include: support for location-sensitive alerts ("spatial triggers"); improved tools for managing dynamic content (e.g. traffic information) and subscriber data; and expanded real-time navigation support. This version also introduces support for the Linux operating system, offering carriers greater flexibility in their deployment options. LocationLogic encompasses a complete infrastructure solution including a scalable location platform and the geospatial and integration services needed for wireless network operators to offer subscribers location-based services.

"With the latest release of LocationLogic, Autodesk Location Services has made it easier than ever for wireless network operators to differentiate their voice and data services by adding the value of location," said Joe Astroth, executive vice president, Autodesk Location Services. "Location-enabling service offerings makes them inherently more compelling to subscribers, given that information is then filtered and presented based on the user's place and time of need."

    Other enhancements to the newest version of LocationLogic include:

    -- Enables subscribers to change the preferred language for driving
       directions (For example, a subscriber driving through France may choose
       to view directions in English or French);
    -- Ability to provide walking and driving directions for one route
       together (For instance, a person needs driving directions to a parking
       area along with information on how to navigate the last two blocks on
       foot);
    -- Improved driving directions for routes with multiple street names,
       street signage, ramps, traffic circles and exit numbers;
    -- Ability to set traffic alerts at a certain severity level in order to
       filter out minor events;
    -- Enables subscriber to request traffic information for the roads
       surrounding him or her at the time and place of need; and
    -- Expanded support for Tele Atlas True Time Maps(TM), featuring
       real-time, dynamic traffic information.

Autodesk LocationLogic was engineered from inception to meet the specific requirements of wireless network operators, such as a scalable J2EE architecture and the ability to handle high volume transaction loads, in order to offer unparalleled flexibility and reliability. Its capabilities include multi-modal routing and user zones which support tracking and notification services such as fleet management. As part of this release, Autodesk Location Services has implemented the new OpenGIS(R) Location Services (OpenLS(TM)) Specification that was officially adopted by the Open GIS Consortium, Inc. in January. Co-authored by Autodesk, this open specification ensures interoperability between location-aware applications that implement this specification. It also features support for the new Autodesk LocationLogic Software Development Kit introduced last month, as well as the Oracle9i database.

Autodesk Location Services will be demonstrating a variety of services built upon the LocationLogic platform at CTIA Wireless in Atlanta this week. The booth number is 4059.
