Providing superior design software to architects since 1982, Autodesk delivers architects innovative technology that gives them a competitive advantage by enabling them to create design concepts, manage interdependent details and collaborate and share efficiently using accurate and up-to-date drawings, for greater productivity, cost-effectiveness, and responsiveness to clients. Six leading firms have demonstrated their innovation using the latest technology from Autodesk to create designs featured in the U.S. Pavilion. These firms include: Kolatan/MacDonald; Reiser+Umemoto; Lewis.Tsurumaki.Lewis of New York; Studio/Gang/Architects of Chicago; and Predock_Frane and George Yu Architects of Los Angeles.
Titled "Transcending Type," the U.S. Pavilion exhibit, which was curated by Architectural Record, features the work of six U.S. architectural firms on the cutting edge of design. Through drawings, digital media, and 3D installations, these architectural firms present new visions for iconic modern building types, including a shopping center, residential high-rise, sports arena, parking garage, spiritual space, and a highway interchange.
"Events such as the Biennale in Venice bring together members of the world's vanguard in architecture and showcase the latest thinking and trends in design," said Phil Bernstein, FAIA, vice president of the Building Solutions Division at Autodesk. "Technology is driving fundamental changes in the profession and in the evolution of how buildings are designed. Autodesk software for the building industry gives architects a powerful means to visualize design concepts and execute their vision."
"We created the 'Resi-Rise' project for the Biennale to demonstrate how living and working spaces might be consolidated into stacked pods that can grow and change with tenants' needs and allow the building as a whole to evolve over time," said William Mac Donald and Sulan Kolatan, partners at Kolatan/Mac Donald. "We're constantly improving the quality of our work, and by using the latest Autodesk tools to visualize and explore the feasibility of new concepts, we are able to easily and quickly make changes to designs in response to client needs."
The architects showcasing projects at La Biennale used a range of Autodesk(R) products to create their designs, including AutoCAD(R), Autodesk(R) Architectural Desktop, Autodesk(R) VIZ, and Autodesk(R) Revit(R) software applications. Autodesk(R) Revit(R), the most recent addition to the Autodesk building solutions product family, provides a new way of working in the building industry by using parametric modeling technology. It gives designers the ability to automate changes and update all elements of building design, so that plans and documents are consistent, accurate, and up to date.
