BNIM Architects Wins Autodesk Green Building Leadership Award
Autodesk Recognizes Firm's Commitment to Building Information Modeling and Innovative Sustainable Building Designs
DENVER, GREENBUILD EXPO, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Autodesk (Nasdaq: ADSK) today announced that BNIM Architects, an architectural firm based in Kansas City, Mo., has been awarded the 2006 Autodesk Green Building Leadership Award for its work in using Autodesk Revit software for building information modeling (BIM) to design green buildings. Presented to BNIM Architects at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, the Autodesk Green Building Leadership Award is an annual award that recognizes customers who have used Autodesk technology to design buildings that are innovative, energy efficient and incorporate the latest sustainable design principles. To further recognize the innovation and commitment of companies such as BNIM Architects, Autodesk will also make a donation to a green building charity of the firm's choice.

"BNIM Architects has built a national reputation for excellence in architecture that strives for a minimal ecological footprint on the natural world," said Phil Bernstein, LEED AP, FAIA, and Autodesk vice president of building industry strategy and relations. "Because of its pursuit of sustainable design, environmental responsibility and commitment to building information modeling, the firm exemplifies the spirit of the Autodesk Green Building Leadership Award, and we are honored to support their sustainability efforts."
Five years ago, BNIM Architects adopted Autodesk Revit Building software for architects and designers that is built specifically for building information modeling, and which has increased BNIM's productivity and efficiency. Design edits and revisions that were once incorporated manually are now quickly and efficiently inserted into Revit Building, and reflected in all views of the 3D model. Revit allows the firm's architects to track several sustainable design strategies on any given project, without sacrificing other project needs. This includes determining percentages of material reuse, recycling and salvage within each project. BNIM Architects has used Autodesk Revit Building to design over 20 projects, including the 1.1 million-square-foot Internal Revenue Service Kansas City Campus. The software has helped the firm balance all components and systems in their buildings and achieve highly efficient designs. BNIM Architects also uses Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk VIZ software to create photorealistic 3D visualizations of buildings.
"Revit is critical in our efforts to design and construct our projects more sustainably, enabling us to approach our work in a way that is consistent with our mission," said Eddy Krygiel, associate with BNIM Architects. "This software has proven very successful for BNIM Architects and we are honored to be selected by Autodesk for the Green Building Leadership Award."
