Energizer Trusts Its Data to Autodesk Vault

Aug 30, 2011
Leading Global Manufacturer Replaces Teamcenter With Autodesk Data Management Software

SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Aug 30, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK), announced that Energizer Holdings, Inc. (Energizer) -- a company whose portfolio includes such globally recognized and trusted brands as Energizer batteries and Eveready flashlights -- has adopted Autodesk Vault data management software to more efficiently manage its product design and manufacturing information. Energizer is replacing Siemens Teamcenter with Vault for its enterprise data management needs.

The multinational company, with $4.3 billion in annual sales, will be rolling out Vault to 12 different locations worldwide, connecting product design, manufacturing planning and production operations. A myriad of users, ranging from core manufacturing engineers to production line mechanics, will have immediate, direct and secure access to key design and manufacturing data. As a result, it will be easier for the company to drive efficiencies and maintain and optimize the production lines that are responsible for manufacturing its innovative array of products--everything from watch batteries, to headlamps, to USB-powered cell phone chargers.

"Our manufacturing equipment runs 24 hours a day, producing 600 to 900 pieces per minute," said Todd Schuler, design and drafting supervisor, Energizer Battery Manufacturing. "With Autodesk data management software, we have detailed equipment data at our fingertips, so that we can minimize manufacturing downtime when we need to make repairs or do equipment redesign. That way, we can keep our business up and running."

By adopting Autodesk Data Management tools, Energizer anticipates a range of process improvements. In addition to bringing together global sites, Energizer also expects to closely integrate Vault with its other corporate IT systems to streamline business processes, and expects significant annual cost savings by moving to Vault.

Integration with Autodesk Digital Prototyping Tools a Key Factor

Compatibility with Autodesk Digital Prototyping software, which the company uses to design its production equipment, played a key role in Energizer's decision to switch to Vault.

Energizer's equipment designs start with outlining production systems and specific machine requirements. Engineers then create digital prototypes in Autodesk Inventor, often combining 2D & 3D CAD data with information from suppliers. The deep integration between Vault and Inventor makes it easy for Energizer to manage its data from engineering through manufacturing--saving time, preserving data accuracy, and reducing costs.

"Energizer holds the leading market position in multiple product categories, which is a testament to the company's approach to business," said Robert "Buzz" Kross, senior vice president, Manufacturing Industry Group at Autodesk. "By selecting Vault, they are bringing those same high standards of excellence to their data management needs, helping them to operate at peak efficiency and maintain their leadership position."
