"The ITT Technical Institute is reaching out to emergency professionals, fire/police first responders, any agency or municipality personnel called into action during a crisis, with the latest technology tools from Autodesk to help them learn how to effectively prepare for, respond to and manage homeland security and other disasters," said Jon Hansen, assistant fire chief (retired) Oklahoma City Fire and Rescue, and Autodesk manager of emergency response solutions. "ITT is the first college system nationwide to deliver criminal justice courses that integrate real-life emergency response software tools and the Internet to teach students truly useful methods to make well-informed decisions when responding to an emergency."
"It is my belief that what is driving the criminal justice field today and in the future, is a convergence of human intelligence, communication and technology. In line with our strategy to offer a criminal justice program based on this convergence, we worked with Autodesk Consulting to develop a customized teaching curriculum and learning activities based on Autodesk Crisis Command software," said Fawzi Ben Messaoud, corporate curriculum manager of ITT Educational Services, Inc. "Our students are not only learning the concepts of criminal justice but also how to use technology to respond to emergency incidents and act decisively to save lives and property. These are immensely useful skills that students can bring with them to the workplace. We are excited to be the first to roll out such relevant and practical courses to our institutes nationwide."
Autodesk Custom Curriculum for Emergency Preparedness
ITT Technical Institute worked with Autodesk Consulting to create a custom-tailored curriculum based on Autodesk Crisis Command 2 for several courses in the ITT Educational Services Criminal Justice Program, including:
-- Essentials of Security -- Emergency Procedures -- Homeland Security
The flexibility inherent in Autodesk Crisis Command 2 allowed Autodesk Consulting to easily extend the application to support additional aspects such as victim and evidence locations from either the exterior (city map) or interior (floor plan) perspectives. This extended the usability of the application for ITT Criminal Justice students beyond first responders to include crime investigators.
The curriculum includes a web-based system for ITT instructors to define planning exercises for ITT students, and a web-based tool for trainees to prepare Incident Action Plans and manage a scenario crisis. After the initial setup and deployment of the application, Autodesk Consulting is now hosting and providing 24x7 technical support. ITT is currently offering its criminal justice program at 53 campuses and plans are underway to roll out this program to all the remaining ITT technical institutes nationwide.
