LaserPacific Adopts Autodesk's Stone Shared Storage Area Network and Discreet Lustre Digital Color Grading System
Kodak Subsidiary Creates Powerful New Pipeline for Its Digital Intermediate Projects
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., April 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADSK) today announced that LaserPacific Media Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE: EK), has added Autodesk(R) Stone(R) Shared storage area network (SAN) and three of Autodesk's Discreet(R) Lustre(R) digital color grading systems to its digital motion picture pipeline. The addition of Autodesk solutions enables LaserPacific to provide powerful new digital solutions to the filmmaking community, and bring ideas to reality faster than ever before.
"LaserPacific has a history of innovation and creativity. We're committed to extending the power of film to the digital world," said Leon Silverman, president of Hollywood-based LaserPacific and director of strategic business development for Kodak's Entertainment Imaging Services. "Our goal is to help filmmakers realize their creative vision in ways that have not been possible in the past. The Lustre digital grading system, along with our company's significant color and image science technology, brings a powerful new palette to creative filmmakers. While filmmakers seize the power of these new tools, the work behind the scenes in Autodesk's collaborative storage area network helps make today's complex digital post-production process transparent."
As the primary contractor for LaserPacific's Stone Shared SAN and Lustre systems, Autodesk is responsible for design, certification, installation, support and maintenance. SGI and DataDirect Networks are strong partner sub-contractors that provide subject matter expertise in specific infrastructure areas to complement Autodesk's core offerings.
The Lustre system is used to digitally create dramatic looks and consistency across the entire film. It is part of a digital intermediate process that converts film to high-resolution digital files and then back to film, providing greater control over color manipulation and visual effects. Whereas before, only select shots requiring visual effects were digitized, today, many films are being digitized from start to finish -- allowing more creativity.
Stone Shared is Autodesk's high-bandwidth, real-time, high-definition storage area network designed for multi-user collaboration at any resolution from video to film and beyond. The Stone Shared SAN features an open, non-proprietary file system for superior value, improved workflow and increased productivity. For more information visit www.discreet.com/stoneshared.
