ATP Architects and Engineers Firm Earns Autodesk BIM Experience Award

Nov 15, 2011

Honored as One of First Implementers in Central Europe of Fully Integrated, Multidiscipline BIM Workflow

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 15, 2011-- Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), a leader in 3D design, engineering and entertainment software, announced that ATP Architects and Engineers (ATP) has been selected to receive an Autodesk BIM Experience Award for the company’s use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for their architectural and engineering services. The firm has been using Autodesk Revit Architecture software since 2008 and adopted Autodesk Revit Structure and Autodesk Revit MEP software in 2009 and 2010, respectively, making ATP one of the first firms in central Europe to implement a fully integrated, multidiscipline BIM workflow.

The award further recognizes ATP for exemplary use of BIM to help:

  • Set new, higher standards for Central Europe in the use of integrated model–based design workflows
  • Facilitate greater client understanding of design intent, helping to accelerate project decision making and approvals
  • Improve coordination of architectural and engineering disciplines and accuracy of documentation, helping to save time and money

“ATP employs BIM processes within an integrated interdisciplinary design environment for improved accuracy, increased efficiency and better coordinated projects,” said Werner Blunder, architect and head of BIM Management with ATP. “Our firm uses Autodesk BIM solutions throughout the design process, from conceptual design through to documentation and project delivery.”

ATP currently uses the following products as critical parts of its BIM workflow:

BIM Process on Shopping Mall Project in Slovenia

ATP’s most recent BIM project is the design of a new 32,000-square-meter shopping mall in the Siska district of Ljubljana, Slovenia. Slated to open in the fall of 2012, the mall will contain space for up to 90 stores, as well as extensive balcony areas for restaurants and public spaces throughout the facility. ATP designed the Siska mall according to ambitious energy standards. The building will be subject to BRE Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) certification — an environmental assessment method and rating system widely used in Europe and other countries around the world.

The design team developed the project using intelligent digital models created using Autodesk Revit Architecture, Autodesk Revit Structure and Autodesk Revit MEP software. The model-based BIM process enhances cross-discipline collaboration and helps the team optimize change management, as well as minimize the number of design conflicts. As a result, the project design and documentation was better coordinated, helping to improve accuracy and increase the firm’s efficiency by as much as 20 percent. Autodesk Revit Architecture and Autodesk 3ds Max Design software were used to create visualizations to help the client and other stakeholders better understand and evaluate proposed design options. Use of Autodesk Ecotect Analysis software is helping the team evaluate sustainable design strategies to assist in realizing a resource-saving, energy-optimized end result.

About Autodesk BIM Solutions

Building Information Modeling is an intelligent model–based process that provides insight for creating and managing building and infrastructure projects faster, more economically and with less environmental impact. Autodesk BIM solutions for building and infrastructure lifecycles are based on intelligent models created with Autodesk Revit software products and AutoCAD Civil 3D software. Helping to expand the benefits of BIM is a powerful set of complementary solutions for visualizing and simulating projects virtually, documentation and professional drafting, and data management and collaboration. The Autodesk Building Design and Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suites offer a comprehensive set of tools to support BIM workflows in a single, cost-effective package.
