Autodesk Announces Implementation of Open GIS Web Map Service 1.1.1 Specification
SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 16, 2003-- Autodesk MapGuide 6.3 Software and Open GIS(R) Consortium Web Map Service Helps Organizations Worldwide to Share and Visualize Spatial Data
Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK), the world's leading design software and digital content company, today announced implementation of the Open GIS(R) Web Map Service (WMS) Specification, an industry consensus specification that enables organizations to efficiently, effectively, and immediately share and visualize data. The WMS Extension for Autodesk MapGuide(R) 6.3 software is ideal for organizations that produce and distribute geospatial information, develop and integrate software systems, or use image processing and GIS. These organizations will be able to share data throughout the lifecycle of a project using open standards. The WMS Extension for Autodesk MapGuide 6.3 is currently available in the Americas and Asia-Pacific.
David Schell, President of the Open GIS Consortium (OGC), said, "It is very significant for Autodesk's vast installed base of engineering users, and for the GIS community at large, that a company of Autodesk's size and reach is implementing a core OpenGIS Specification. Autodesk is rapidly increasing its customer base and therefore providing a strong boost for uptake and acceptance of OpenGIS Specifications. Autodesk was a founding member of OGC and has been active in the Interoperability Program, in particular, the OpenLS (Open Location Services), OGC Web Services 1.2, and Geospatial One-Stop Portal Initiatives. We look forward to working closely with Autodesk in the future."
"Today, companies are looking for solutions that span the lifecycle and allow them to share crucial data. Autodesk infrastructure solutions and the WMS Extension for Autodesk MapGuide 6.3 software are meeting those needs," said Chris Bradshaw, vice president of the Infrastructure Solutions Division at Autodesk, Inc. "It enables data interoperability, protects an organization's investment in existing spatial data, increases the value of data by making it available to a wider community, supports OGC Web Services architecture, and enables organizations to seamlessly integrate the Autodesk MapGuide software application into multi-vendor environments such as the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) initiative."
The WMS Extension is available through the Autodesk subscription program only at this time. The Autodesk subscription program is an easy way to minimize disruptions and get instant access to the latest Autodesk design software. An up-front annual subscription allows users to maximize their budget resources while the incremental software delivery smoothes the learning curve. The subscription program also includes helpful support documents, e-Learning training courses, and optional direct online support.
