Autodesk Location Services and BEA Systems Deliver Location-Sensitive Wireless Data Services
Technology Pairing Brings Unparalleled Scalability, Reliability to Market
Autodesk Location Services, a division of Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq:ADSK), and BEA Systems, Inc., (Nasdaq:BEAS), one of the world's leading application infrastructure software companies, today announced an agreement to jointly offer location-sensitive wireless data services to carriers. The two companies have been working together over the last 18 months to integrate their technologies to create a highly scalable, reliable, and standards-based architecture for the deployment of location-based services. Autodesk Location Services is using the J2EE-compliant BEA WebLogic E-Business Platform(TM) in its Autodesk(R) LocationLogic platform to manage the scalability, transaction processing, and application server needs of a wireless operator's complex and highly demanding environment.
"Wireless operators are counting on Autodesk Location Services to help them successfully offer next-generation wireless data services to subscribers," said Joe Astroth, executive vice president, Autodesk Location Services. "As our application platform partner, we have chosen to work with BEA, recognized throughout the industry as the market leader with proven, technical excellence."
Location-based services are gaining momentum with wireless subscribers, and operators require a platform-based solution that integrates easily with their existing IT systems and scales to handle the millions of transactions generated by the 1.2 billion wireless subscribers anticipated worldwide by 2005(a). Further, operators' success in retaining wireless data services subscribers will depend on their ability to provide timely information at the point and moment of need -- making reliability of their location services infrastructure of paramount importance.
"While we have already made significant inroads into the wireless marketplace, and have a significant presence in the communications space, we feel that teaming with Autodesk Location Services further positions BEA to gain momentum in this market as operators increasingly appreciate an end-to-end, well-conceived, and well-executed strategic solution for wireless data services," said Scott Edgington, vice president and general manager, software partners, BEA Systems. "The integration of our technologies provides a leading edge in this competitive market."
Autodesk(R) LocationLogicThe Autodesk LocationLogic platform integrates core content and applications, as well as middle-tier administrative services for billing, provisioning, map rendering, profile management and content management. The integrated platform also incorporates a comprehensive set of application programming interfaces and templates that provide access to the platform and accelerated development for outsourced application providers. Autodesk LocationLogic also offers a rich set of interface options (XML, SOAP, Java, UDDI) so that independent application providers can choose the most effective and efficient integration strategies. This interface flexibility will result in the widest possible array of services for the subscriber.
