Shimizu Corporation Expands Relationship with Autodesk, Enabling Digital Design Data Sharing and Reduced Operational Costs
Major Japanese General Construction Company Implements More than 2400 Licenses of Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3.3 and AutoCAD LT 2002 - an Integrated Autodesk Solution
Autodesk Inc. (Nasdaq:ADSK), the world's leading design and digital content creation company, today announced that Shimizu Corporation, a leading worldwide general construction company, headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, purchased 1,500 seats of AutoCAD LT(R) 2002. Shimizu now licenses 433 seats of Autodesk(R) Architectural Desktop 3.3 and 2,000 seats of AutoCAD LT, an Autodesk solution that allows them to link operations, from architectural design to construction.Shimizu is establishing a commercial IP-VPN to create a broadband, high-speed communications system, linking workshops, production centers, sales offices, and other elements of its organization throughout Japan. The plan calls for the progressive establishment of links to the existing broadband network, connecting the head office, departments and branches. By March 2003 Shimizu plans to complete a broadband network linking 1,200 locations nationwide.
Shimizu will use Autodesk Architectural Desktop and AutoCAD LT under this new broadband network to provide an integrated, company-wide environment for the integrated sharing of design data at all stages -- from the creation of basic working drawings to construction. By using Autodesk products as a base for the integration of various internal CAD data, Shimizu will be able to link digital design data for use on construction sites.
"Using Autodesk integrated business solutions will help Shimizu achieve strong corporate competitiveness by facilitating information sharing and collaborative work for major strides in productivity," said Tetsuya Shiga, president, Autodesk Ltd. Japan. "We are committed to providing products that offer complete, global design productivity. Shimizu's implementation of these solutions sets them ahead in global design productivity, positioning them as a leader in the Asia Pacific arena."
Autodesk Architectural Desktop, the leading solution for design development and construction documentation, uses intelligent architectural objects to create a single, real-world building model in which all information is dynamically linked, allowing automatic updates that reflect design changes. This model-based design intelligence can be extended throughout a project's life cycle, ensuring accuracy and reducing cycle time.
AutoCAD LT is the professional 2D CAD program that delivers 100 percent DWG compatibility with AutoCAD platform-based products. AutoCAD LT, a useful tool for architects or contractors who need to contribute to the design and construction process but are less familiar with CAD technology, will be used as a complementary, interoperable tool with Autodesk Architectural Desktop.
